The Mediterranean-Alpine orogenic region is a large zone of transition and in the same time it is a consequent of the continent-continent type collision, between the major lithospheric plates: African and Arabian at one side and Euro-Asiatic one the other side.
In the tectonic framework of Europe, Romania structurally covers some sectors of the northern part of the Alpine orogen and his foreland.

Curtoazie

The alpine folded region occupies 2/3 from Romanian territory and belongs to the “Pannonian Basin System”.

To understand the actual tectonics process is necessary to draw up and evaluate the geodynamic evolution impact from another major tectonic system “Black Sea Basin System” and surrounding major tectonic units.

The geodynamic behavior of these major tectonic units from the Romanian territory is the main reason for stress accumulation in the Carpathian Arch bend zone and one of major causes of seismogenic behavior of Vrancea zone and Banat sesimogenic area.
